Viva Las Vegas! On July 7-9, the NBRPA once again welcomed our Legends, guests, media and partners to Sin City for the 2022 Legends Summer Getaway.

This year’s annual gathering was like none other, complete with programming focused on technology and career opportunities, first-class hospitality at NBA Summer League, lavish Players Parties at nightclubs and Topgolf, and a comfortable stay at the beautiful ARIA Resort & Hotel.

The Legends Summer Getaway kicked off on day one with invaluable NBPA Health Screenings and the opening of the Legends Lounge, where we welcomed all our members and guests to reunite and reconnect like they were back in their playing days. After checking in and collecting their swag bags, members got to stop by each of our partner tables to develop new relationships and foster old ones. No Legends Lounge would be complete without a DJ, an open bar, food, and of course an NBRPA-branded half court.

As the evening rolled around, we began our educational programming with the technology summit, titled Emerging Technology & Player Opportunities – Powered by ARIA 360. The summit was moderated by ESPN analyst and NFT collector Ros Gold-Onwude, and our panel of experts included NBA Legend and tech investor Metta Sandiford-Artest, ARIA Chief Creative Officer Travis McMichael III, Bleav Talent Director Nick Kreider, and NBRPA Counsel & Sr. Director Cameron Ballard. Topics included NFTs, virtual reality, NBA 2K, social media, and a range of additional topics focused on educating NBRPA members about current trends in technology, as well as how to effectively leverage those for personal and professional purposes.

Day one of the Legends Summer Getaway concluded with the ever-popular outing at Topgolf as attendees partied, golfed, and mingled well into the night with the beautiful Las Vegas strip as the backdrop.

Day two tipped off with the annual members meeting and breakfast, providing NBRPA members with important updates about the state of the association. NBRPA President & CEO offered comprehensive remarks about the growth and achievements of the organization over the last year. Highlighted in these remarks was the acknowledgement and celebration of the NBRPA’s 30th Anniversary, leading to an enthusiastic standing ovation for Archie Clark as one of the association’s founders and biggest advocates.

As the Legends Lounge opened for a second day and attendees were eager for more programming, WNBA Legend Yolanda Moore took to the stage with representatives from Amazon to discuss her experience gaining career training and hands-on experience as part of the Amazon Athletes Program. Attendees asked questions and stayed after to talk with Yolanda and the Amazon representatives about networking and career opportunities for former players within Amazon.

As the Legends Lounge closed for day two, attendees headed over to the Thomas & Mack Center to watch some exciting NBA Summer League action. Legends and their guests enjoyed premium hospitality in the Michelob ULTRA Courtside complete with cold refreshments and spacious, comfortable seating courtside.

Day two wrapped up with a Players Party at JEWEL Nightclub and an after party at Alibi at ARIA, but it’s safe to say that nobody wanted the night or the 2022 Legends Summer Getaway to end.

Come Saturday morning we gathered one last time for a farewell breakfast and a group photo to celebrate another amazing reunion in Las Vegas. We can’t say “thank you” enough to our Legends of basketball, their wonderful guests, and our gracious partners for coming together and making this Legends Summer Getaway the most fun, educational, and successful yet. We’re already counting down the days and can’t wait to see you all again for the 2023 Legends Summer Getaway!
